Saturday morning was race day and the conclusion of the retreat. Steph and I got there with enough time to warm up and then be ready for her 9:00 am start, since she did the half, and my 9:15 am start for the 5k. It was a beautiful morning!!
Giving directions (which is funny because a bunch of the girls took a wrong turn…or didn’t take a turn…something…so they ended up having to turn around and ran another mile or so. oops)
The ladies lined up for the half!
Steph during her half. She was happy I promise. I just caught her at a funny moment. But she looked strong and the scenery was beautiful!
The course is a little tough because it’s full of hills. For the 5k, the first half is a gradual uphill, but that also means the second half is a gradual downhill. I have to admit though, I really appreciated it when I got to level ground.
I ended up doing better than I expected! I can’t even remember the last time I ran a 5k this fast. All that focus on cross- and strength training has helped! I’m very happy with my time and performance. My foot only hurt a little bit (soo happy I didn’t do the half) and I really felt like I gave it my all.
After both races were over (Steph did great! She looked so strong the whole time!!), we went to Irmita’s for some authentic Mexican.
It was super, super delicious and a perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.
Overall, it was a great race and I feel very good about it. What a great day 🙂
