How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? 45 minutes? An hour? Do you find yourself running late morning after morning because your routine takes too long? It may be time to simplify and give yourself back some extra minutes of sleep or travel time. Getting ready in the morning can happen in 30 minutes and you can still look and feel great as you fly out the door. It will take dedication and preparation, but you can make this routine a habit and find that life is simpler each morning.
Shower – 10 minutes
You have ten minutes at the most to shower, so use your time wisely. You can choose to only wash your hair every two to three days, saving yourself some time on those days. You can even consider using a cleansing conditioner on the days you do wash your hair in order to save a step by combining shampoo and conditioner. If you would like more time to dedicate to other parts of the morning routine, you also have the option to shower at night and allocate these ten minutes elsewhere.
Brush and Floss – 2 minutes
When you get out of the shower, wrap your hair in a microfiber towel (whisks away water more effectively, saving you drying time) and brush your teeth and floss while you wait for this to happen.
Makeup – 5 minutes
This one might be the most difficult depending on how much makeup you are used to applying daily. But if you want to shorten your routine, this is a great way to cut back and still look amazing!
Start with applying a facial sunscreen daily. As mentioned here, while foundation and other skincare products may contain SPF, it is usually insufficient. It never hurts to add a little more protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Next, you have a few options for how to apply your makeup to be minimalistic, while still helping you look like a knock out.
- Use an eyeshadow palette that already lays out which colors go on your eyelid, crease, and brow bone. No guesswork for you.
- Skip full makeup and opt for a red lipstick instead. It is a classic look, so you really can’t lose.
- You can also simply curl your eyelashes, put on a couple coats of volumizing mascara and you are good to go!
Hair – 5 minutes
On the days you do not wash your hair, using a dry shampoo can help revitalize your hair within seconds. It is a lifesaver when you are in a rush! Brush your hair out and then it is ready to be styled.
Keep your hairstyles simple. Take advantage of your natural hair. If you have wavy or curly hair, own it and apply some mousse and you are good to go. You can also work on getting good at a quick top knot, braids, or a ponytail. Many of these can look more complex than they really are and make it look like you put a lot of time and effort into your hair. Don’t forget a great accessory, like a well chosen headband, to take a simple hairstyle to the next level.
You can also wet your hair down and braid it the night before, as you are getting ready to go to sleep. In the morning, blow dry it or run your straighten over it. Undo the braids and your hair is full of lovely waves that don’t require any additional work.
Clothes – 2 minutes
Every girl has stood in front of her closet, baffled as to what to wear, wasting many precious minutes in the morning. Remove this completely by picking out your outfit the night before. Lay out it, all ready to go. Make sure you choose which shoes, jewelry, coat (if applicable) and purse you will be taking that day.
Breakfast and Lunch – 6 minutes
Breakfast should be something simple, but still nutritious. Ideas can include toast with peanut butter and fruit, a protein shake, or even a yogurt you can quickly grab and take with you out the door. Refrain from meals that take a lot of preparation and clean up time.
If you pack a lunch to work, this can be done the night before to save yourself a lot of precious time in the morning. Have everything ready to go in a bag, so all you need to do is grab and go.
Finally, take the time to place all your essentials by the door. This includes your keys, purse, wallet, coat, and anything else you take with you daily. This removes the time you would have spent running around the house looking for all needed items.
That’s it! In 30 easy minutes, you can look great and arrive on time. With a little practice and some discipline, this quick routine will become habit and you’ll soon be bragging to all of your friends.
