Hey all! I know I’ve slacked a lot lately. I have a few posts in the works, I just haven’t gotten it together long enough to finish one to post. So for now, since we are still in January, here is a fun guest post for you to read from my friend Amber. Let me know which ones you agree or disagree with!
20 New Year’s Resolutions That Will Make Life More Fun
Author: Amber Brubaker
This year, don’t waste your time resolving to eat healthy, exercise more, and save money. Though those are very admirable goals, they usually don’t last the whole year. Instead, make resolutions you’ll be able to keep because you enjoy doing them. Choose from any of these 20 suggestions, or come up with some fun ideas of your own.
- Get Your Photo Taken in 5 Interesting Place
This is especially great if you want to travel more. Plan out a trip to five great locations, and get your picture taken at each one. Consider a fun set up that you can repeat at all five locations.
- Break a World Record
You don’t need to have the longest hair or run the longest distance to break a world record. There are other fun records to break. For example, the current record for the longest consecutive kiss is nearly three days. Now that would be a fun record to break!
- Start Learning a Language
Enjoy all the benefits of being bilingual by learning a new language. Those who are bilingual enjoy better job opportunities and a higher quality of life.
- Go to the Ocean
If you don’t live anywhere near the ocean (or if you do but never go), make it a priority to head to the sea at least once this year.
- Try One New Food Per Month
Test your palate once a month to gain an appreciation for foods. This may even entice you to live a healthier lifestyle, allowing you to achieve a healthy goal in a fun way.
- Cook More
Cooking is a great way to relieve stress and build bonds with others. Many people even discover that they love cooking. It’ll save you money and allow you to eat healthier!
- Buy Something You Wouldn’t Normally Buy
This year, say yes to something awesome you would normally decline, like an upgrade on your car. For example, you could enlist the services of a company like this to powder coat your auto wheels.
- Grow a Mustache
This one is for guys only. We hope.
- Travel to a Random Spot on the Globe
Get a globe, spin it around, then put your finger on it to stop it. Wherever your finger stops is the place you’ll resolve to travel this year. Hopefully it lands on land!
- Spend Less Time on Facebook
For some people, Facebook is an addiction that takes away from the really meaningful parts of life. If that’s you, resolve to get on less. You might resolve to only get on Facebook one specific time a day, or turn off the notifications on your phone so that you no longer receive constant alerts.
- Actually Read Books on Your Reading List
Most people have a reading list a mile long, but only read about one book per year. Change that this year by reading at least six books on your reading list.
- Climb a Mountain
Climb a mountain near your home. It doesn’t have to be especially tall or world-renowned. Any moderately high hill will do.
- Learn a New Word Every Week
There are more than a million words in the English language, but the average person only knows about 15,000. Use this year as an opportunity to grow your vocabulary!
- Learn a New Skill
Here are a bunch of skills you could learn, but you only need to pick one for this year’s resolution: cooking, sewing, singing, changing your own oil, changing a tire, writing.
- Donate to a Worthy Cause Each Month
Is there a cause in your community that you support? Give them your financial support this year. The standard for donations is typically 10 percent of your income, but you can give whatever you want.
- Have One Technology Free Day Per Month
Shut down your computer, turn off the TV, put your tablet in a drawer, and don’t text anyone. Phone calls are okay. Welcome one day per month of tech-free meaningful interactions.
- Decide to Be Happy
Everyone has their down days, but you can try to reverse that this year by deciding on those days to be happy. It’s amazing what you can do with a little willpower.
- No Screens in Bed
Once you climb in bed for the night, put your phone, laptop, and tablet down. Remove the TV from your bedroom. If you need something to help you wind down at night, read a book or a magazine. No screen time will help you get a better night’s sleep.
- Keep a Quote Book
Did your neighbor say something really funny the other day? Write it down in a quote book. At the end of the year, go over all the quotes, both funny and inspirational, that you recorded throughout the year. It will be an amazing experience.
- Send Snail Mail
Revert to the good old days of pen pals. Instead of shooting off a quick email, send handwritten letters to a loved one. Save the replies and put them in a scrapbook.
This year is sure to be a success with your resolutions, simply because you resolved to do things you actually want to do!
