The one where the pictures are huge

Oh gosh. So much to catch up on! This is why I used to blog more often :) Also the pictures are ginormous and I can’t figure out why they won’t respond to my resizing. Don’t you worry. I’ll get this figured out one of these days.

Tuesday night Deborah and I went to see Divergent. Yes, I had already seen it but I’m just a really selfless friend like that.

Although I did make her go get cookies to take with us to the theater.

Wednesday after work I went on a run with Deborah and my coworker Christyn. It was soo fun!

We asked this older lady to help us take a jumping picture and this was as good as it got. haha! Too funny.

Then yesterday Christyn brought these into work. Party Cake flavored Peeps. I didn’t even know they exist! If you were wondering what Health Coaches eat at work, this is it ;)

Then my other coworker brought me this Easter “basket”. Yeah, my coworkers are trying to fatten me up. This is why I run ;) (there are mini Cadbury eggs inside the plastic eggs)

On that note, I could not be happier that it’s Friday! We have a potluck at work today (aka I don’t have to pack a lunch…woohoo!) and then family Easter festivities this weekend. There’s a lot to look forward to!

Last time you went running?

Do you like Peeps? Straight up sugar covered in more sugar? What’s not to love?!

When you take a blogging hiatus and the blood moon!

Taking a month-long hiatus from blogging was very therapeutic but there were definitely pros and cons to it. Here are some of the things I noticed:

- friends and family have to ask you to know what’s going on in your life

- nobody references your blog in real life, thereby shattering the illusion that only people you don’t actually know read it

- you stop taking pictures of EVERYTHING – a surprisingly hard habit to get back into. Hence the lack of pictures in the last few posts

- you stop reading other blogs as often – super sad! It’s like losing touch with friends you used to talk to every day

- days where nothing happens are no pressure – it’s not like you have to report on anything

- on days where something fun/exciting/happy/crazy/infuriating happens, you don’t have your favorite outlet to let everyone know. because obvi everyone wants to know!

- you have a LOT more time on your hands. It’s crazy how much time blogging takes up. Which I don’t really mind – it’s about finding a balance though. That’s something I’ll be working on as I am coming back to blogging.

- you end up missing your blogging friends and decide to come back.

In other news, I stayed up later than I planned last night in order to see the Lunar Eclipse! One pro to being on the west side of the United States – it was a couple of hours earlier than for our East coast friends. Read more about the eclipse here.

My roommate and I went on a spontaneous trip up one of the canyons to get away from the city lights.

Ironically, the best picture of the “blood” moon was taken from the front of our house when we got back. Oh well. It was still a fun adventures. The sleep deprivation should make work interesting…but so worth it!

Well, another birthday in our family has come and gone. Only 1 more to go. Yup, we get through all of our birthdays by May. It’s kind of sad really. 

This is typical of my family. I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to take a normal picture.

But let’s be honest, sometimes I exploit that fact and get awesome pictures likes this:

(if anyone knows how I can get pictures off of my phone without them being this teeny, tiny I would really appreciate the advice!)

 

Last week’s nutrition goal was to track my food intake (I used My Fitness Pal) and I would say I was about 87% successful at it. I did track most days and learned that I really do eat pretty well when it comes to my meals. It’s my sweet tooth that gets the better of me. But on the days that I got in good work outs, that made up for it. Although there was one day I was under by 400 calories. That was strange.

So maybe overall it tends to even out for me? I don’t know. But it was interesting to see what I don’t eat enough of! From what I can tell, I need more calcium. Good thing I discovered that I have string cheese in the fridge! The things you learn when your roommate cleans out the fridge. I also have to juicy tomatoes! Who knew?!

This Week’s Nutrition Goal: use all the fresh fruits and vegetables this week before they go bad! I hate it when that happens.

Workout Log and then some

Alright here’s my first follow through for posting my work out log. This week definitely didn’t go exactly as I planned for my workouts but it helped soo much to have it all written out beforehand. Here’s what I ended up doing:

Monday: Ran 3 miles (35 minutes total – including 5 minute cool down). I felt tired and soo out of shape.

Tuesday: Unplanned rest day. The day got away from me.

Wednesday: 25 minutes at the gym – mat for abs and then free weights. Shoulders were sore the next day!

Thursday: 15 minute warm up run, 15 minutes of plyo work, 8 minute abs video.

Friday: teeny bit of leg exercises with exercise band while sitting at work.

Saturday: 4.29 mile run @ 9:30ish pace

Like I said, not 100% what I planned but I still feel good about what I did and I’m so happy to be getting back into a work out routine. It feels great!

Now a couple of other things to note since I haven’t posted in a few days:

I am notorious with my good friends for hating Spring. I get allergies and I think they’re the worst. I would much rather be sick. But I do have to admit, it is a very pretty time of year.

Friday night I went to a friend and coworker’s wedding reception. It was in a greenhouse/store and they had soo many pretty plants and colorful flowers. It was a GORGEOUS reception. I wish I had been able to get a picture with the bride because she looked amazing too!

My run on Saturday was with Sharsti and it was soo great! We haven’t been able to get together in months so it was so fun to chat and catch up. She’s in much better shape than I am, so it was really good for me to run with such a strong runner. (Sharsti – normally I can talk a lot better/have better lung capacity haha Next time I’ll be better I swear!)

And happy news – my foot only ached a little bit but didn’t actually hurt! Maybe I’m getting better!

and last but certainly not least, today is my dad’s birthday! Love him so much! He’s so funny, smart and witty. I’m so grateful to have him in my life. When I was about 10 he told me “Rock on with your bad self” and I’ve always loved that phrase ever since. So Dad, rock on with your bad self! Happy Birthday!

Wednesday Wonderfuls

With reviving the blog, I figured I would also revive one of my favorite posts: Wednesday Wonderfuls.

{1} Monday I went for 2 runs. 2! The first one was tough and I felt out of shape. The second one was outside, while catching up with my best friend, so it was infinitely better.

{2} This was my dinner on Monday and lunch at work on Tuesday: spinach, grilled chicken, black beans, corn, cheese, tortilla (just on Monday), a little cheese and salsa. Hit. The.Spot!

{3} I went to a pre-screening last night of Draft Day. I thought it was great! I just love sports movies though, so I’m bias. But I definitely think it’s worth seeing! It made me wish I was more involved in knowing athletes and who gets drafted and where!

{4} My landlord came over on Sunday and fixed my closet door. Now both sides shut and I don’t look super classy (note the sarcasm) with one half of my set of closet doors sitting against the wall.

{5} My mom sent me this website: http://www.fitnessblender.com/. It has lots of different workout videos you can do, as well as meal plans and more! I haven’t looked into all of it, but what I have seen is pretty cool and I’m excited to do some of their workouts! I’ll let you know what I think.

This is not a wonderful, but I just have to mention how I’ve realized I got out of the habit of taking a picture of EVERYTHING and had nothing for this post. So that’s something I need to start doing again. Haha! Oh the life of a blogger. It’s unique. But it’s a great one!

Off to a good start

Hey there!

My weekend was wonderful and exactly the rejuvenation I needed. I watched General Conference and heard inspiring words such as these:

I’ve seen a few other LDS bloggers mention Conference, so for those of you not of our faith, Conference is an event that takes place twice a year where we have the opportunity to hear from many of our leaders. I’ve seen some people compare it to Ted Talks. So it’s an opportunity for them to address us on uplifting, Christ-centered topics and for us to hear from them. We believe that the topics are inspired from our Heavenly Father and are things He wishes for us to know.

As for my goals to get back into my healthy routines, I’m off to a good start! I got up this morning and ran at the gym. It was so hard. I only did 3 miles and I couldn’t believe how long it seemed to take! I have a lot of work to get back up to where I used to be. But that’s why I made my new goals. I am sitting down right after I post this to plan out the rest of my work outs this week and I’m so excited for it!

I have decided that my nutrition goal this week is to use My Fitness Pal to track my intake and output every day this week. I want to get a good idea of where I am starting from and what exactly needs improving (although let’s be honest, I definitely have some things in mind). But I really like the awareness that using apps like this cause for me, so that is what I am doing this week.

The weather here is so beautiful! I really should have run outside today. I think that would have made my run that much more enjoyable! Lesson learned. I am so glad it’s back to the kind of weather where I like to be outside. I really want to take advantage of this time of year before it gets too hot in the summer.

Just One Important Announcement

I’ve been sick all week, so nothing at all to report in the exercise department so far. I’m hoping I can kick this bug by the end of the weekend so that I can jump into my new goals for getting back on track!

That’s right. Just 7 short weeks from this coming Sunday, I will be on my way to EUROPE! For the first time! As you can see on the itinerary above, we’ll be starting in London and then splitting our time with Paris. Which means I’ve also been brushing up on my high school French.

Must sees in London and Paris, travel tips, must eats, etc??

I’m Back!

Hello there friends!

It’s been a while and I have missed you! As you can see, the blog is looking a little different and so far I love it! There will still be some design changes coming up but overall, you get the picture :) Speaking of pictures, I’m going to scatter random pictures from the last month throughout this post so that you feel like I never left you.

I have to admit it was very freeing not to blog for a while. I didn’t realize how much it was stressing me out, causing me to get less sleep than I should (because I write my posts the night before) and how much I really needed to pull back for a bit. I now feel more in control and a lot happier about it. My posts may not be as consistent as they used to be, there may be times when I don’t blog simply because I have nothing to say…and that’s going to be ok! But I do want to continue it because I did miss my blog friends, I had multiple family members express that they missed reading it and I have renewed energy to put into it. So let’s do this!

Confession Time: I’ve started to slip into a bit of a slump when it comes to my health and fitness. Consistency is actually something I’ve always, always struggled with in this arena. {there goes all my credibility as a health care professional} I’m still eating good foods but I’m also eating more of the not so good foods. I am also not doing a great job of keeping up consistent exercise. The last couple of years since I got back into running, I would normally be in training mode right now but since my foot is still not fully healed from my marathon injury (I know, I know…I REALLY need to go to a doctor) I’ve fallen into complacency and that is just not ok with me. So here is what I plan to do:

{1} Create a work out schedule every Sunday for the coming week. The days will be flexible. I will be allowed to mix up workouts as my schedule requires. I haven’t quite decided how many days I’m shooting for, but I’m thinking at least 4 to start out with.

{2} I will purchase a notebook and keep an exercise journal. This will help me in the aforementioned keeping of the workout schedule.

{3} I will post my previous week’s workouts on Sundays. This will be my form of accountability!

{4} Each week, I will also choose some aspect(s) of nutrition to focus on. I will create goals for them and will report on them on Sunday along with the week’s workouts.

There. Those are the things I am going to do to get back on track! Because, dang it, I’ve gained a couple of lbs and just don’t feel great anymore. Also I got sick (like, stay home from work sick) this week for the first time in months and I blame the lack of exercise and the slacking diet. Time to reign things in, folks.

To leave things on a happier note, I wanted to share with you this happy video. I love that there are such good people in the world. How cool would it be to be a part of something like this for someone?!

And they were also going to watch The Princess and the Frog (because it takes place in New Orleans) but I didn’t stick around for that part. I haven’t seen that movie but I’m sure it’s adorable.

Yesterday I also got in a short plyometrics workout. It hurt so good. I love that plyo doesn’t have to be a long workout to get a good effect! I’m sure my neighbors think I’m a weirdo though jumping all around my driveway haha!

In other news, I’ve decided to take a short hiatus from blogging . I still have a few kinks I’m working out from switching to self hosting and I am working with a friend on a new design, so I’d like to be able to focus on those things and come back full force. It’s going to be adorable and I can’t wait to show you!!!
